BREAKING NEWS
We have breaking news
information
Details are sketchy
at this time.
We don't know how many
or how bad
We are verifying every
bit of information that we get.
from what we understand
at this point,
no one really knew what
was going on.
I can't even imagine.
We did speak briefly,
just moments ago,
we heard from a law
enforcement source
not surprisingly saying
that there was a tremendous sense of shock.
filling us in on some
of the details
as we all try to understand
what happened
from what we can piece
together at this point,
He didn't give us any
information
exactly why he did this.
It apparently, to all
witness accounts,
was handled with tremendous
efficiency,
the question of why
yet remains.
We have some indications
about motive
"this is workplace related."
So, we have indications,
possibly, that there was some trouble
this was nothing more
than personal issues and not work- related issues.
a fairly spare account
we've heard about police,
literally, on their
hands and knees
searching for evidence.
we're told by witnesses,
I shouldn't call them
witnesses, but people in the area
Most of them, said that
they heard no gunshots
that they only became
aware of the incident
when the police arrived
on the scene
they continue to gather
information,
putting the story together
we figured something
was going on.
This is where -- all
of the activity was centered in this area.
I was a little bit nervous,
thank you for your time
Yet we cannot verify
that,
nor the number of injured,
the number of dead,
or the identity of the
suspect in custody,
whether or not that
person is the person
believed responsible
for the shootings.
they follow the trail
here of evidence,
is what they do,
in order to put something
like this together.
So it really takes quite
a while to figure out exactly who was involved:
all of them innocent
victims,
And we'll probably find
that out shortly.
So, I mean, there is
just so much unknown here
that a lot of people
are really quite frantic about it,
we'll remind the viewers
that we are waiting
And these are the kinds
of things that happen that,
you know,
we report on and we
see on TV,
or we listen to it,
you know,
and look at that in
the newspapers.
You are just not safe
anywhere.
it could have happened
to any one of us.
I'm not going to go
into any more details until we're sure.
I'm not going to comment
on what, if anything, he said.
Can you elaborate at
all?
I don't think it's appropriate
right now
until we're sure of
our facts
I'm not going to get
into his background
Do you have any idea
why?
Can you elaborate on
that?
Was he upset? Was he
angry?
I'm not going to comment
on that.
if we get any more information
later in the day,
we'll update you.
We will take a break
and be back after this.
It's starting to come
through.
they have much more
information,
they'll be able to tell
us more.
it would probably be
very premature
for them to kind of
describe exactly what happened,
if they really don't
know yet.
We talked to some of
the people earlier
who could hear and see
what was going on
So just as a precaution,
they have to go through
the building
Cubicle by cubicle,
corner by corner and floor by floor.
just to make sure
it's just incredible
that something like this would happen
And when they come out
and start telling people
exactly what happened
and what they know happened,
they will be able to
give us a better sense of that right now.
maybe a disgruntled
employee
And can you describe
for me what you might have heard
or what you had seen?
I was shocked.
Very, very surprised.
We have no confirmation
in fact we do have no
official confirmation right now
However, we do have
highly-placed sources
to speak on this case
as well
Now, standing by once
again.
Nobody can get through
here.
you can see people running
trying to get some more
information;
And so little bits of
information are starting to come out now,
but exactly what triggered
this tragedy here
is still very, very
unclear and
I think it could be
a little while
before we get some more
information.
The information that
I've developed here at the scene indicates
But at this point we
have the nothing
to indicate the identity
of just who these victims are.
This employee told me
it was very apparent
from the looks on their
faces
that it was no joke,
they weren't fooling,
that it was very serious.
the person that I spoke
with,
this employee,
said he did not know.
We can tell our viewers,
though,
that the search for
what they thought could have been has ended
They went through this
building systematically
We're told that they've
completed that search.
OK. So a couple of witnesses
there who are outside the building.
The story is still ongoing
and we have on the line a man
Tell us what you know,
sir.
we really didn't know
what was going on.
Were you interviewed
by police at all about any of this?
No, Everybody that did
not hear or see anything
was asked to leave immediately.
what did you see?
a number of news trucks,
helicopters flying around
the top of the building,
and a lot of news,
and a lot of media personnel.
Did you know anybody?
No, I did not.
Anything else? Can you
think of anything else?
That's it.
OK, thank you very much.
Just to recap now.
Once again, if you're
just joining us,
We're continuing to
watch that story.
We do know there have
been a number
We don't know how many
or how bad
We do know a suspect
is in custody.
As soon as we know more,
we'll pass it along.
we should be able to
get more facts and information
OK, we'll take a break.
We'll be back here with
more news in just a moment.
We're going to go ahead
and listen in.
I think we have some
more witnesses.
Let's listen again.
All right, we're taking
it in, folks, as we get it.
Yes. We're narrowing
it down a little bit,
Are you waiting for
this news conference?
Is there any activity
going that might tell us it's about to begin?
Nothing to indicate
it's about to begin.
there are literally
dozens of officials here on the scene
So I would think that
any news briefing
will await them being
brought up to speed on what has happened.
At this point, no word
That, of course, would
be standard practice
At this point, we don't
know.
We're not looking at
live pictures right now.
We're looking at some
taped pictures.
And so we're -- at this
point,
we're the only ones
here waiting for investigators,
and they are all inside
the building,
working on matters inside.
Whether, in fact, that
may be, we don't know.
You'd know better than
I in terms of having an opportunity
to listen to those interviews.
We've covered about
all we can at this point, folks,
so we’re going to return
you to your regularly scheduled program.
We don't want to unduly
alarm anyone.
However, we do have
a separate report
which is virtually bringing
everything there to a halt.
we're seeking to learn
[about] that
as well as verifying
the other facts that [we] just heard
We're continuing to
collect information
OK. So you're near?
Several hundred yards
away from it.
What's going on there?
Well, the only thing
we've seen is the helicopter overhead
and just listening to
the news reports.
Have you -- have you
been witness to any of the activity?
No, we haven't.
You didn't see anything
taking place?
No, I didn't. I heard
that on the radio though.
So you -- you're just
continuing to watch?
That's right.
Like we are.
Yep.
OK, Thanks for checking
in.
All right.
We'll continue to collect
information about the story
We don't really know.
But we'll continue to
watch the story
and we'll pass along
whatever we learn.
This poem was
extracted from the 'breaking news' transcripts of CNN reporting on the
shooting of the seven people in Wakefield, Massachusetts. I came up with
the idea of this peice watching CNN's lawyer speculate on the reason why
this guy shot everybody and then say "we may never know why" and then continue
to offer possible but completely speculative reasons. I
thought that was very
funny and typical of news reporting, to just keep blabbing on even when
you have absolutely nothing to say. So I decided yesterday to sift through
those reports and isolate out this sort of rambling meaningless quest of
attempting to report on something when
you have utterly nothing
factual to offer but keep going because your 'live' for 2 or 3 minutes
and have to say SOMETHING! So that work of mine was to explicate that idea
through the extractions from those texts. I was interested is extracting
in such a way as to leave the thing very general and ambiguous so that
it applies to many such events. below are the exact sources.
